An informal discussion of books, film and theater, led by a facilitator. No requirements to read or see any particular book, film or play. Everyone is invited to share ideas and reflections on the selected theme.
Topic: MUSIC AND STORYTELLING- Music plays a part when we read books, view films, listen to opera, hear poetry. How does music enhance the story, describe an emotion, or tell us a location? Music can play an important part to understanding an author’s story or a character’s motive. Examples: My Fair Lady, Les Miserables,West Side Story based on books; The Pianist, Birth of a Star, and Orpheus are films about music; Ballets that tell stories–The Nutcracker and Swan Lake. Illustrating a story or place, consider Appalachian Spring or Rodeo (Aaron Copland) or Grand Canyon Suite (Ferde Grofe). Join us for a lively discussion.
