February 7 – The Soloist 

The Soloist is based on a true story. It stars Jamie Foxx as Nathaniel Ayers, a homeless, mentally ill man, who was once a musical prodigy but now plays on the street. Robert Downey Jr. as Steve Lopez, the LA Times columnist who bonds with him, and writes a column about him, which makes him famous.  1 hour 57 minutes.

March 7 – Carmen Jones

Carmen Jones is an adaptation of Bizet’s opera, Carmen. It tells the story of the young, free spirited Carmen Jones (Dorothy Dandridge), whose great beauty is the object of many men’s desires. However, Carmen sets her sights on young army office, Joe (Harry Belafonte), who is engaged to Cindy Lou. Joe quickly succumbs to Carmen’s charms thus beginning the tragic love story.   1 hour 48 minutes

April 4 – Quartet

Conducted by Dustin Hoffman and starring Maggie Smith and Billy Holliday. Quartet is a wickedly comic film about redefining old age and growing old with hope; demonstrating how art illuminates life and the human spirit remains undimmed even as the brightest stars start to fade.  1 hour 39 mintues

May 2 – Saturday Night Fever

Saturday Night Fever, starring John Travolta, is about a 19 year old Italian American from Booklyn who tries to escape the harsh reality of his bleak family life by dominating the dance floor at the local disco.   2 hours.

June 6 – The Piano

After a long voyage from Scotland, pianist Ada McGrath (Holly Hunter) and her young daughter, Flora (Anna Paquin) are left with all their belongings, including a piano, on a New Zealand beach. Ada, who has been mute since childhood, is sold into marriage to Alisdair Stewart (Sam Neill), however Ada becomes intrigued by George Baines (Harvey Keitel), leading to tense, life-altering conflicts.    2 hours

July 11 – Moonstruck *This month only, the 2nd Thursday*

When Italian American widow Loretta (Cher) accepts a marriage proposal from her boyfriend, Johnny, (Danny Aiello) she falls for his younger brother Ronny, (Nicolas Cage). Ronny lost his hand in an accident, which he blames on his brother and aggressively pursues her while Johnny is out of the country. As Loretta falls deeper in love with Ronny, she comes to learn that she’s not the only one in her family with a secret romance.   1 hour 42 minutes

August 1 – The Red Shoes

The Red Shoes, starring Moira Shearer, is a film of dark fantasy, romantic passion, and an infectious love of dance, music, and cinema. The dance sequences are among the most beautiful put on film, but the drama behind the curtain is even more interesting.    2 hours 16 minutes.

September 5 – Chicago

Chicago, starring Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Richard Gere explores the themes of celebrity, scandal, and corruption during the Jazz Age. The plot centers on Velma and Roxie, two murderers now in jail together awaiting trial. Velma, a vaudevillian, and Roxie, a housewife, fight for the fame that will keep them from the gallows.   1 hour 53 minutes.

October 3 – Bye Bye Birdie

When rock star, Conrad Birdie, is drafted his fans are devastated, but none more than struggling songwriter Albert Peterson (Dick Van Dyke), whose song Birdie was just about to record. Albert’s longtime girlfriend, Rosie (Janet Leigh), pushes Albert to writer a new tune that Birdie will perform on television to a fan selected in a contest. Ohio teenager Kim McAfee (Ann-Margret), is declared the winner, but no one has counted on the jealous wrath of her boyfriend.    2 hours.

November 7 – Pretty Woman

In Pretty Woman, starring Julia Roberts as Vivian and Richard Gere as Edward, a prostitute and a wealthy businessman fall hard for one another, forming an unlikely pair. After Edward hires Vivian to stay with him for the weekend, the two get closer, only to discover there are significant hurdles to overcome as they try to bridge the gap between their very different worlds. 2 hours 5 minutes

December 5 – The Polar Express

The Polar Express, starring Tom Hanks, takes place on Christmas Eve as a young boy embarks on a magical adventure to the Norht Pole, while learning about friendship, bravery, and the spirit of Christmas. 1 hour 40 minutes
