“I made a suggestion. I said, ‘We need to get away from ourselves – how about if we just become sort of an alter ego band?’” –Paul McCartney.

It would be hard to find someone that has NEVER heard a Beatles song. In the short six years they were a band they were innovative, revolutionary, and timeless. Their music has reached generations of music lovers and Desert Foothills Library was lucky enough to get a Beatles expert for one short morning. Vinnie Bruno has research, loved, and found a calling in Beatles history. A native of New Jersey, he comes to Arizona from time to time to escape the cold winter times and enjoy our desert landscape. This time we grabbed him to discuss Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

With the Jones/Coates Room brimming with Beatles fans Bruno started off! He set the stage, ehem to speak, and the knowledge, passion, and love of the Beatles came rambling out. Bruno would share an anecdote or little quip about each song and then play the song for the crowd to hear from the #1 hit album; Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Did you know Lovely Rita was actually about the meter maids of the area near Abbey Road? Did you know the Beatles, being economical and creative, used combs covered in paper instead of kazoos?

The program Bruno brought was informative and enlightening. We were lucky enough to grab him this year, and wouldn’t you know, he is already planning a new program for February 2020! He was knowledgeable about this album, but wait until you see! He will be even better when he shares his insight of his absolute favorite Beatles album; Revolver! Come see The Making of Revolver by The Beatles by Vinnie Bruno next year.
