February is National Library Lover’s Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the essential role libraries play in our lives and communities. It is a month to celebrate the magic of reading, the power of information, and the community connection that libraries foster. At Desert Foothills Library (DFL), we are proud to be a hub where neighbors can gather, learn, and grow together.
There are so many reasons to love your local library! Beyond our shelves of bestsellers and classics, DFL offers a vibrant calendar of events designed for people of all ages. For our adult patrons, we offer enriching programs like Yoga for Every Body and Tai Chi to keep you moving, as well as engaging author talks and the Craft ‘N Chat group for creative socializing. We even host screenings of historical docu-series and art critiques to spark intellectual conversation.
Families and children are at the heart of our mission, with programs like Family Storytime and the Learners & Makers STEAM series fostering a love of literacy and discovery from a young age. Teens aren’t left out either, with opportunities to join the Teen Advisory Board or gain valuable experience through our Teen Volunteer Program.
One of the unique treasures of our library is Chapter Two, our wonderful used bookstore. Whether you are looking for a gently used novel, a puzzle, or a DVD, Chapter Two offers incredible deals, with monthly sales often held on the second Friday and Saturday of the month. Every purchase made at Chapter Two directly supports the library’s operations, giving you a great reason to shop guilt-free!
However, the most important thing to know this month is what makes the Desert Foothills Library truly unique. Unlike most public libraries, we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that does not receive standard government funding. We are Maricopa County’s only independent nonprofit library, meaning we rely on the generosity of our community for over 90% of our operating budget.
We cannot keep our doors open, our shelves stocked, or our programs running without you.
