Smiling woman with dark hair wearing a black blazer and pearl necklace against a neutral background.The Desert Foothills Library is pleased to welcome Melissa Steimer as its new Executive Director. Melissa brings more than 30 years of nonprofit leadership experience, having served organizations focused on youth services, family support, health, and animal welfare at both the local and national levels. 

Melissa joins DFL from Paws for Youth (formerly Gabriel’s Angels) where she had been Chief Executive Officer since 2021. Prior to that, she held leadership roles at Arizona Animal Welfare League, UMOM New Day Centers, Sun Health Foundation and PetSmart Charities. 

She holds a Master of Public Administration and Nonprofit Management from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, a bachelor’s degree in political science and international Relations from Creighton University, and a certification in Nonprofit Executive Leadership from Arizona State University’s Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation. Melissa is also a Valley Leadership Class 40 alumna and previously served on the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Greater Arizona Chapter as Education Committee Chair. 

A passionate advocate for community connection and lifelong learning, Melissa and her family live in the North Valley and is excited to join the Desert Foothills Library to help continue its mission of serving, inspiring, and enriching the community.
