Ever dream of leaving it all behind to cruise Tahiti in your own yacht? Eleanor Gobrecht and partner Suzanne, both University Profs in their early 40’s, did just that on a 30-ft sloop-rigged sailboat, Folly III, accompanied only by a Siamese cat and a poodle. The three voyages during the 70’s took both ladies over 21,000 miles—as far south as the Galapagos, as far west as New Zealand, and as far north as Papua New Guinea—and the dozens of islands in between. Enjoy with Eleanor the landfalls, the close calls, the new cultures, and the ever-changing beauty of the ocean. What lessons we learned!

Entering Heidelberg College as a musician, Eleanor transferred into Drama, with her B.A., M.A. (Ohio State) and Ph.D. (U. Of So. California) focused on Theatre, Speech, American Lit., and ESL. After teaching six years at U. of Arizona and several California Universities, she began her sailing adventure. Unwilling to cut short that decade-long voyage, she surrendered her professorship. Subsequently, she taught in Tokyo universities, RV’d America, and served as a work-camper in Oregon state parks. Throughout her life she was a choir singer and brass player, just retiring from Mesa City Band in 2016.
