Every day, generous community members donate books, DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks, puzzles, and other media to Chapter 2 Bookstore at Desert Foothills Library. Most of these donations eventually make their way onto our bookstore shelves, where visitors can discover affordable reads and hidden gems while supporting the library.
But every once in a while, something especially unique appears in a donation box.
It might be a rare first edition, a signed novel, an out-of-print collectible, a vintage children’s book, or a hard-to-find piece of media sought after by collectors. While these items are uncommon, they are an exciting reminder that you never know what treasures may be tucked between the pages of a donated book.
That’s where our incredible volunteers come in.
Every donated item received by Chapter 2 Bookstore is carefully assessed by knowledgeable volunteers who sort, research, and evaluate materials before they are placed for sale. Their experience and attention to detail help identify items that may hold a higher value than the typical used book.
When these special finds are discovered, they are often listed for sale through our Amazon online bookstore, helping maximize the value of the donation and generate additional support for Desert Foothills Library programs and services.
This process benefits everyone involved. Donors know their contributions are being thoughtfully handled, collectors have the opportunity to discover rare and interesting items online, and proceeds directly support the library’s mission to serve the community.
Chapter 2 Bookstore is the largest used bookstore in the North Valley and is entirely volunteer driven. The bookstore features more than 15,000 books, DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks, and puzzles spanning nearly every genre and interest imaginable.
Since its inception in 1954, volunteers have played a vital role at Desert Foothills Library. As a member-supported library, Desert Foothills Library operates with a small paid staff and a large number of dedicated volunteers whose time and talents help make the library possible.
All proceeds raised through Chapter 2 Bookstore activities directly support Desert Foothills Library. Volunteers operate the bookstore on a daily basis, manage monthly book sales, sort donations, and oversee online Amazon sales.
Chapter 2 Bookstore receives thousands of donated books and media items each month. The bookstore exists because of the incredible generosity of the Desert Foothills community through donations of both books and volunteer time.
When donations are made to the library, those items are either sold in Chapter 2 Bookstore or through the library’s online Amazon bookstore. Whether someone purchases a paperback for a few dollars in the store or discovers a collectible title online, every sale helps support library programs, resources, and services for the community.
The next time you donate a box of books, remember you may be contributing not only to someone’s next great read, but possibly to the discovery of a hidden treasure.
Drop off your donations at Chapter 2 Bookstore any time during our public hours of operation.
