How long have you been volunteering at the Desert Foothills Library?
I have volunteered at Desert Foothills for around two years, starting in 8th grade.
What do you like best about the library?
I have always loved the huge wall of windows where I go to study frequently and have memories of watching oncoming storms (an exciting moment that many Arizonans can relate to).
What is something that may surprise people who visit the library?
Something that may surprise people about Desert Foothills Library is that we host a multitude of events and are able to have amazing books for the adults and children plus a fun children’s area (which I remember playing at when I was younger) because of the generous donations of many. We have a very thoughtful, loyal, and supportive community.
When did you first become interested in books and reading? Tell us the story.
In my early elementary school years, I distinctly remember hating reading, convinced that there wasn’t anything that could keep my attention. However, in my second-grade year, I bought a book at a schoolbook fair that I loved called “14 Hollow Road.” This book encouraged me to keep reading and soon I became one kid at recess engrossed in 700-page books.
What is a recent book you’ve read that you’d recommend and why?
A series that I will always love is “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” plus the series that stem off from it like the “Heroes of Olympus.” It is impossible not to be intrigued by the plot and to fall in love with the characters. This series helped so much in my Latin history class and made Greek mythology an interesting topic for me even to this day.
